Sharjah police arrested a man on charges of stealing nearly Dh1 million from a furniture store and other clothes shops in the emirate.
Police identified the thief after he was caught on camera breaking the safe inside the furniture shop late night.
The man confessed that he burgled several shops in the city with the help of other accomplices who he said had left the emirate.
Police had searched for the culprit for a long time following reports by owners that their shops had been burgled at night.
“Police finally identified the burglar after he was caught on camera smashing the safe at a furniture shop without knowing there is a camera in that shop, “the Arabic language daily Emarat Al Youm said.
It said the unnamed man confessed to the crimes in court on Tuesday and that the judge decided to issue sentence on Jan 13.
