Japan-bound plane veers off NAIA runway

A Jetsta Asia plane bound for Japan veered off the runway while it was about to depart from the Ninoy Aquino International Airport. early this morning.

Airport authorities said the plane has been moved to a hangar as clearing operations continued at the airport.

The Jetstar Asia plane has been moved to the Lufthansa Technik Aircraft Maintenance Center at the airport complex.

Airport General Manager Ed Monreal said the incident caused light damage at the runway because it is continuosly being repaired.

Several early morning flights at Manila’s main gateway was affected as runway 13-31 was closed.

The incident also caused some flights to be delayed and at least three flights which was supposed to land in Manila has been diverted to Clark Airport.

All passengers of the Jestar Asia plane were safe.

Initial reports said the plane experienced runway excursion upon making a 180-degree turn for departure while taxiing and got stuck at the grassy portion.

“The incident occurred at 2:32 a.m. The MIAA Fire and Rescue and Operations teams immediately proceeded to the site to assist the passengers and crew,” the Manila International Airport Authority said in a statement.
