LOOK: River turns red in South Korea

A river in South Korea turned red on Sunday as around 380,000 pigs were slaughtered to prevent the spread of African Swine Fever (ASF).

In a report by Agence France-Presse (AFP), it said that the river was filled with the blood of pigs.

Local NGO Yeoncheon Imjin River Civic Network said the blood was from the burial site near the inter-Korean border, where there were 47,000 pig carcasses were piled up.

The heavy rain last week caused blood to seep into the Imjin River on Sunday.

Lee Seok-woo, head of the NGO, said the occurrence has left people living in the area anxious and worried.

However, the environment ministry of Soul released a statement on Wednesday saying this has already been “dealt with properly”.

They implemented stop-gap measures to prevent it from flowing down to the downstream region. It assured that the tap water in the region is not affected by it.
