POEA now uses email system to fast-track OFW repatriation

The Philippine Overseas Employment Administration (POEA) has assured Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) that there will now be faster repatriation processing time through its email-based system for recruiters.

Atty. Bernard P. Olalia, POEA head, said otices to repatriate will now be sent to recruiters through emails.

“This will allow them to comply with POEA process cycle time of 10 days for repatriation,” Olalia told Business Mirror.

The system will provide POEA with the capacity to send notices through an electronic system instead of the traditional mail.

“This would ensure that 48-hour/15-day period in processing the documents for the repatriation of distressed overseas Filipino workers will be promptly done,” POEA said in a statement.

The agency also required all licensed recruitment agencies to submit their official email-addresses to their repatriation unit to prepare themselves for this new system.

“If the notice is sent by physical mail, it will take a long time, that is why we are getting their e-mail addresses to speed up sending of notifications for repatriation,” Olalia added.

The International Organization for Standardization (ISO) has called out POEA for its non-compliance with the standard requirement of 10 working days.

The POEA said the delay was caused by the late receipt of the notices to recruiters brought by the traditional system. (TN)
