Early this month, 158 distressed workers from UAE were repatriated to the Philippines.Consul General to Dubai and the Northern Emirates, Paul Raymund Cortes said that the repatriated workers were victims of illegal recruiters.

“These workers were found to have left the country using short-term visit visas and were promised to be issued with work visa by illegal recruiters,” Cortes said.

The DFA reminded Filipinos not to seek employement abroad using improper visas.

The DFA added that undocumented or illegal workers are more prone to abuse.
