Bohol-Panglao International Airport to start night flights

The Department of Transportation (DOTr) announced on Wednesday that the Bohol-Panglao International Airport is expected to boost the number of flights and eventually lower airfares.

This, as the BPIA has extended its operating schedule from 12 hours (6 a.m. to 6 p.m.) to 16 hours (6 a.m. to 10 p.m.) due to the installation, full calibration, testing and operation of several ground-based navigational equipment.

The new ground-based navigation system complements the airport’s existing satellite-based navigation system, which has limited capacity at night and in the occurrence of weather disturbances.

With both navigation systems in operation, more flights can be accommodated at the country’s first “eco-airport.”

The influx of additional flights is seen to reduce airfare, providing additional travel options to the people and guests of Bohol province.

The the P8.9-billion airport is equipped with solar technology to run its hot water supply system that avoids 18 tons of carbon dioxide emissions a year.
