2 Pinoy seafarers among 26 killed in Mexico bar fire

Two Filipino seafarers were included in the 26 confirmed dead in a bar fire set off by a gang in Coatzacoalcos, Mexico.

According to Associated Press, the two filed a shore leave when their ship docked from Houston.

Ramón Guzman, the agent for the ship Caribe Lisa, said the unidentified Filipinos did not return until they were informed that they have been killed in the fire that engulfed the White Horse nightclub late Tuesday.

Some members of the gang that spread havoc in the area had earlier been arrested but they were released. The fire in the bar was the latest establishment figured in the series of gang attacks in Coatzacoalcos.

The suspects doused the bar with gasoline and set it on fire.

The authorities believed that the attack was perpetrated by the “Jalisco cartel”.

As per preliminary investigation, the mastermind has been refused by the bar owner to collect extortion demands.
