PNP shuts down Lotto outlets following Duterte’s order

The Philippine National Police wasted no time in following the order of President Rodrigo Duterte to close down illegal gambling and gaming schemes authorized by the Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office (PCSO).

The PNP began to crack down on lotto kiosks nationwide.

PNP Chief Oscar Albayalde went around Baguio City to close lotto shops in line with Duterte’s order.

The President gave a 24-hour deadline to the PNP to stop gaming activities due to alleged corruption in the agency.

“I will direct the NBI to conduct an in-depth investigation into the alleged anomalies in the collection and remittance of the government’s share in revenues, which apparently prompted the president to take drastic action,” Justice Secretary Menardo Guevarra said on the President’s order.

Malacañang admitted that no documents or order yet from the palace to enforce the closure apart from the President’s verbal order.
