Investors, NBI file estafa cases vs. Kapa officials

The National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) and three investors of the Kapa Community Ministry International or Kapa filed estafa complaints against its founder Pastor Joel Apolinario and 13 other Kapa officials.

NBI also filed charges for the violation of the Securities and Regulation Code against Apolinario on the supposed investment scam.

The Kapa founder and officials are facing eight counts of syndicated estafa and five counts of violation of the securities code.

Three private complainants also joined the complaint, with one of them investing more than Php 45,000 in exchange for huge money returns.

Syndicated estafa is a non-bailable offense.

Apolinario said that he will remain in hiding because of fear for his life.

Apolinario said that he will not surrender to the authorities unless members of the religious group will ask him to do so.

The government called out Kapa as one of the biggest investment scams to date because of promising a 30% return for their every donation amounting to Php 10,000.
