The Defense Department is now looking into a possible ‘missile test’ conducted by China in the South China Sea.
“We have no firsthand knowledge about this missile launch except this news report. We will conduct our own inquiry and will decide later what to do if proven correct,” Defense Secretary Delfin Lorenzana told reporters when asked for confirmation.
The Pentagon said that a recent Chinese missile was launched in the disputed South China Sea.
Pentagon furthered that it is ‘disturbing’ and contrary to what China pledged it would not militarize the area.
A U.S. official said that China tested multiple anti-shop ballistic missiles over the weekend.
“China’s behavior is contrary to its claim to want to bring peace to the region and obviously actions like this are coercive acts meant to intimidate other South China Sea claimants,” the official said.
