DICT wants students to stop using social media for class project and homework

The Department of Information and Communications Technology urges schools to refrain from using social media for home works and school projects.

The DICT said it will issue a memorandum circular asking schools to cease from using social media.

“One of the salient points of the circular that we are working on, because the DICT also has the mandate on the DepEd (Department of Education) on matters regarding cybersecurity, is for academic institutions to cease using social media,” the DICT said.

The department has received a number of reports from parents complaining that some teachers are creating Facebook groups with students and posts their assignments in the group chat.

The DICT said if schools or teachers would use social media it should be through a proper platform like emails.

The department said it is hoping to come up with the circular within the year. Consultations will take place soon.
