The 16-year-old Cebuano student, who is now considered as the primary suspect in the mutilation and killing of Christine Silawan, did not confess to the crime, his lawyer said, debunking earlier claims by authorities.
Atty. Vincent Isle said that his client never admitted his involvement in the death of Silawan, who was stabbed and skinned to the bone.
The suspect, believed to be Silawan’s ex-boyfriend, was arrested in Maribago, Lapu-Lapu City on March 16.
Central Visayas National Bureau of Investigation Director Tomas Enrile said the killer already confessed to the crime.
But Isle maintained that his client is innocent of the charge.
The 17-year-old suspect was released from the custody of the local social welfare office on the day of her funeral.
