Filipino special Olympian competing in Abu Dhabi featured on “Humans of New York”

A Filipino special Olympian shared some inspiring words on leadership and determination when he got featured on photographer Brandon Stanton’s social media page “Humans of New York” (HONY).

The 20-year-old Filipino athlete Eduardo Munarriz talked about the “20 superheroes” in his phone wherein he draws inspiration to do do his best.

“I take it out to look at them, and I pretend that I am the leader of an entire superhero team. The whole team is counting on me to get as strong as possible because I am the muscle of the team,” he shared.

He also said that regardless of what will happen in the competition, he knows that he will still make the people around him proud.

“Our whole team decided together that friendship is more important than winning. Nobody will be mad at me if I lose. They don’t care if I bring home a medal. My family and my friends and Coach John and everyone in the Philippines will be proud of me even just for lifting weights,” he said.

HONY’s Special Olympics series follows the stories of the athletes who will be part of the Special Olympics World Games 2019 which is currently being held in Abu Dhabi, UAE.

Munarriz is expected to compete in a series of powerlifting events this coming March 20.
