Man in UAE jailed, fined Dh20,000 for insulting fiancée on WhatsApp

A man in Abu Dhabi was sentenced to 60 days in jail and ordered to pay Dh20,000 fine after calling his fiance ‘idiot’ on WhatsApp.

According to case reports, the man called his fiance an ‘idiot’ in one of his messages on WhatsApp as a form of joke. His fiance, however, did not take this as a joke and filed a case before the court, reported Emarat Al Youm.

In other news, another man in the UAE claimed to have “accidentally” sent an explicit content to another woman. The man explained that he was not able to check the content of the clip he sent.

The same incident happened to a man who sent explicit videos and messages to six women. The man claimed that he lost his phone and it was not him who had been sending the clips and messages.

Under UAE law, sharing offensive content online is punishable by jailtime and a fine ranging from Dh250,000 up to Dh1 million depending on the case. In some cases, those proven guilty are also sentenced to deportation.
