According to their group complaint, their Bangladeshi employer failed to pay their salaries from December 2017 until February 2018, reported Gulf News.

Following the complaint, MOHRE’s labour disputes referred the case to the Dubai’s Naturalisation and Residency Prosecution after failing to come up with an agreement between the two parties.

The Bangladeshi pleaded not guilty before the Misdemeanours Court. Despite this, the court convicted the employer guilty and was asked to pay Dh10,000 per worker as fine. The total fine amounted to Dh1.2 million.

The Bangladeshi appealed for the conviction saying that an amicable settlement was agreed on and that the salaries have been paid.
