OFW returns home only to find husband shot dead

An overseas Filipino worker (OFW) was left shocked after discovering upon her arrival that her husband was killed in Abra province on October 22.

The domestic helper in the Middle East, Gladys Pilor, returned to the Philippines without her family’s knowledge on October 24, and came home with a news that her husband Rodel had been shot dead in Dolores, Abra, reported Inquirer.

Rodel and a certain Roland Lazara were volunteer workers in the reelection campaign of Abra Gov. Maria Jocelyn Bernos. While traveling on a motorcycle, they were ambushed.

Bernos, and his opponent, Dolores Mayor Reobert “JR” Seares, urged the police to conduct a thorough probe of the incident.

The OFW said she had met with Bernos who described his husband Rodel as a sweet and caring father to Althea Krisha Mae, 12; Glydel Des, 9; Iveler, 7; and Janeth, 5.

The police and election officials are yet to classify the double murder as political killings in Abra despite being a hotspot of homicide cases during elections.
