The Abu Dhabi Police arrested five Asian men carrying drugs collectively weighing up more than 17 kg in separate incidents.
The police said on Saturday that the arrested men would allegedly sell drugs to “young people across the country”.
Brigadier Mohammad Suhail Al Rashidi, acting director of the police’s criminal security sector, said that they were able to catch the suspects in two different operations.
They first caught four men carrying 12 kg of drugs, including 8 kg of heroin and 4 kg of crystal meth, which were hidden inside vehicle parts in a cargo container.
The Abu Dhabi Police tracked the activities of the four men for 18 days before finally arresting them.
In another operation, 5.5kg of crystal meth were confiscated from a salesman of a mobile phone shop, reported Khaleej Times.
The Abu Dhabi Police launched several anti-drug campaigns during the past months, including the ‘My Life is Priceless’ initiative in September.
