New messaging app offers free voice, video calls for two weeks in UAE

Etisalat has launched a new messaging application which offers its users in the UAE two weeks of free voice and video calls.

The new messaging app, HiU Messenger, works like BOTIM and C’Me which are also available for download for Etisalat users.

HiU works on different devices such as smartphones, tablets and desktops and allows its users to make voice calls or HD video calls to anyone in the world.

Users need to subscribe to Mobile Internet Calling Plan offered by Etisalat and to be able to get the first two weeks of the service for free before the paid subscription begins. Users are also allowed to cancel the subscription within the two-week free trial without any charges.

However, standard charges will begin after the two-week period.

Here are the different plans offered by Etisalat for HiU, BOTIM and C’Me.

It can be recalled that earlier this year, UAE telecom providers Etisalat and du confirmed that they have blocked Skype in the country.

Etisalat said Skype provides unauthorized and unlicensed VoIP service which the UAE does not support.

“The access to the Skype App is blocked since it is providing unlicensed Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) Service, which falls under the classification of prohibited contents as per the United Arab Emirates’ Regulatory Framework,” Etisalat explained in a tweet.

Aside from Skype, FaceTime and other VoIP apps are also not allowed in the country.
