PNP warns public against new Tokhang scam

The Philippine National Police Anti-Cybercrime Group (PNP-ACG) warned the public against the syndicate circulating “Tokhang Telecom Fraud.”

The modus operandi uses phone calls or texts to cause panic among people by telling them they have been in the government’s narco-list and could be erased if they will pay a sum.

According to PNP-ACG director Chief Supt. Marni Marcos, cellphone users must avoid answering calls from unknown phone numbers. The public should also be cautious and avoid disclosing personal or financial information to strangers.

Marcos added that criminals have taken advantage of the Oplan Tokhang launched by the PNP in 2016 to victimize Filipinos.

She stressed that those who will receive such texts should not reply but instead report it to the nearest PNP-ACG station, reported People’s Journal.
