NBI nabs Swedish extortionist

A Swedish national was arrested by the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) after allegedly blackmailing five women he had been in relationships with and extorting money from them.

Michael William Ryan Thuerry Fischer Lagarde, 37, is being detained at the NBI Detention Facility, He is also known by his aliases Dan Richard William Prentiss Boggs, Michael William Theirry Rubenstein Boggs and Ryan Archer.

Vicente de Guzman III, chief of the NBI Special Action Unit, warned the public to be cautious of the suspect. He added that the Swedish has an option to post bail for extortion and swindling.

According to one of the plaintiffs, she lived with Lagarde for two years and during that time, the suspect took control over their finances including withholding her cash, credit cards and checkbook. She added that Lagarde also bought a big bike which he asked her to pay.

She sought the help of the NBI after Lagarde asked for P100,000 and threatened to upload their private videos on the internet if she resists.

The suspect was caught in an entrapment operation in a hotel in Taguig City. According to the NBI, the suspect had already been convicted of multiple fraud in Sweden for one year and 10 months in 2006.

His modus operandi is to meet women aged 25 to 38 through online dating and pretend to be a lawyer or businessman, reported PhilStar.
