DFA urges OFWs to register as overseas voters

As the deadline of the registration for the overseas absentee voting approaches, the Department of Foreign Affairs urged overseas Filipino workers (OFW) to exercise their right to vote.

OFWs who will fail to register by September 30, 2018 will not be able to vote on the May 13, 2019 elections.

According to Republic Act No. 9189, otherwise known as The Overseas Absentee Voting Act of 2003, all citizens of the Philippines abroad who are not disqualified by law and at least 18 years old on May 13, 2019 may register as overseas voters and vote for Senators and Party-List Representatives.

OFWs who want to register must personally appear in a Philippine Embassy or consulate and must bring a valid Philippine passport, copy of Oath of Allegiance or proof of Philippine Citizenship (for dual citizens) and Copy of Seaman’s Book (for seafarers).
