OFW in Dubai loses Dh33,000 after falling for scam

An overseas Filipino worker (OFW) in Dubai was defrauded out of cash amounting to Dh33,000 (Php476,555) in a scam that claimed he won Dh500,000 (Php7,220,543).

The 47-year-old OFW was working in a veterinary clinic, reported Khaleej Times. He said a man, who claimed to be an employee from her telecom provider, broke him the news that he won a huge amount of cash.

The suspects, two Pakistanis, aged 32 and 35, asked for his personal details and bank details. The suspects also asked him money for the supposed processing of the necessary documents to claim the prize.

The 35-year-old suspect confessed to the crime.

The two were charged with fraud and forgery at the Dubai Court of First Instance while a court ruling will be heard on August 15.
