The Department of Health (DOH) in Abu Dhabi has advised users of facial cream, Mena Facial Cream, to stop using the product for its high mercury content.
According to DOH’s advisory, laboratory analysis conducted by the health department concluded that the amount of mercury in the product “may present a significant health risk” to its users, especially children and pregnant women.
DOH explained that exposure to high level of mercury may cause nausea, abdominal pain, vomiting, muscle cramps, diarrhea, heart abnormalities, anemia, and liver and nervous system problems.

Residents in Abu Dhabi can contact the Abu Dhabi Government Contact Centre on 800555 or access www.haad.ae for the list of medicines approved by the Health Authority – Abu Dhabi (HAAD).
The health department said that it will submit results of its analysis to concerned government institutions to have the facial cream banned for use, distribution, and sale in the UAE.
