Mar Roxas declines LP offer, Agot Isidro still undecided to run for Senate

The opposition party revealed that former presidential candidate Mar Roxas has declined to run for a seat in the Senate in the 2019 midterm elections while actress Agot Isidro is still undecided.

Senator Francis Pangilinan said he has spoken to Roxas who declined to be part of the senatorial line-up of the Liberal Party.

“I’ve spoken to him and he declined our …parang sinabi niya na he would rather not be included,” he said in an interview with News To Go.

“There are still those who are convincing him,” he said.

Meanwhile, Pangilinan said the party has spoken to Agot Isidro to run because of her opinionated personality and firm stand, but Isidro has not yet decided if she will accept the offer.

“Nakausap natin initially but pini-firm up pa niya ang kanyang decision kung tutuloy ba siya o hindi. Si Agot Isidro. (She is) very opinionated, matapang and we need strong women candidates,” he said.

Pangilinan also revealed he has yet to talk with ousted chief justice Maria Lourdes Sereno regarding her plans in the future.

“Hindi namin po siya nakakausap. It is really up to her kung ano ang plano niya,” he said.

More names are expected to be added to the opposition’s senatorial slate but Pangilinan said the party will seek for candidates who have strong stands on different issues.

“Depending kung sino ang involved at kung ano ang posisyon sa mga issue but we would like to have a strong opposition,” he said.
