OFW locked in stockroom, forced to eat spoiled rice

An overseas Filipina worker (OFW) in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia who was forced to eat spoiled food while locked inside a room in her employer’s home has been rescued by the authorities.

The Filipina was identified as Edrelyn Cauntong who hailed from Bacolod.

A friend of the OFW posted Cauntong’s video on Facebook detailing her experience with her employer.

“Sana po matulungan n’yo po akong makauwi na, kasi po hindi ko na kaya dito. Ayoko nang magtiis dito, gusto ko na po talagang umuwi,” Cauntoy pleaded.

According to Cauntoy, she was locked inside a stockroom due to her expired Saudi Arabia Identity Card. She was also forced to eat spoiled food by her employer.

“Sabi ko sa kaniya ‘di po ako kakain kasi po may amoy na, tapos panis pa po,” Cauntoy said.

The OFW’s health has also deteriorated due to the spoiled food.

“Humihingi po ako ng kanin sa kanila ayaw po akong bigyan. Hilong hilo na rin po ako. Masama na po ‘yung pakiramdam ko,” she detailed.

Cauntoy’s family immediately seeked for the government’s help upon learning of her situation.

Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) in Bacolod has coordinated with the family to inform them of the OFW’s rescue.

Authorities are currently processing Cauntoy’s exit visa and other documents needed for her return to the Philippines.
