Bullying is increasingly becoming a serious public health problem in the world as per the World Health Organization, and the Philippines is no exception.
Recently, the 18-year-old grandson of Sen. Kiko Pangilinan was beaten up by fraternity members inside the Adamson University in Manila last August 7.
Robert Pangilinan, an Hotel Management student, and his family asked the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) to investigate several members of the Tau Gamma Phi fraternity for beating him up in front of other frat members and students, according to local reports.
As per Robert’s testimony, he had been on the receiving end of the frat members’ harassment since last year.
“They always bullied him, binabatukan ng mga members every time they see him. He was recruited by the fraternity with the promise that they will never hurt him. He joined the frat but the group did not stop,” Manila Bulletin quoted Robert’s mother, Marissa.
The family plans to file a case of grave threat and physical injury against 15 members of the said fraternity.
Robert is the grandson of Sen. Pangilinan through his half-cousin.
“Half cousin ko tatay ni Robbie. ‘Yong tatay, anak ng half brother ng father ko,” the senator said in a text message to Manila Bulletin.
