New driver licensing law takes effect July 1

The new Executive Regulation of the Federal Driving Law will take effect Saturday, July 1, according to the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) in Dubai.

The new law was revised by Ministerial Resolution No. 177 for 2017.

According to Ahmad Behroozian, CEO of RTA Licensing Agency, the new law has several stipulations for issuing and renewing driver licenses in Dubai.

The new law states that an initial validity of two years will be implemented for all licenses, both renewed or issued, to citizens, GCC nationals and other nationalities aged 21 and above.

In the same context, those aged below 21 will be given a one year initial validity.

In order to serve public interest, the RTA is observing strict compliance with the Federal and Ministerial Laws governing driving licenses. This is also a way of realizing RTA’s vision of “Safe and Smooth Transport for All”, according to Behroozian.
