Fighting corruption is the top issue Filipinos want President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. to address in his upcoming State of the Nation Address, according to a Pulse Asia survey released Friday.
The survey found that 29.8% of respondents want Marcos to discuss his administration’s anti-corruption campaign. Of those, 18.9% specifically cited efforts to investigate and hold those responsible for alleged anomalies in flood control projects.
The affordability of basic goods ranked second at 18.7%.
Across most geographic areas and socioeconomic groups, corruption emerged as the leading concern. It topped the list in Metro Manila at 35%, the rest of Luzon at 32.7%, Mindanao at 29.7%, Class ABC at 42.1%, and Class D at 29.6%.
The Visayas was the only region where affordable basic goods ranked first at 22.7%, followed by corruption at 19.3%.
Among respondents in Class E, affordable basic goods was also the leading concern at 23.8%, followed by poverty at 15.9% and corruption at 13.8%.
Other issues Filipinos want Marcos to address include anti-corruption initiatives in general at 10.9%, jobs and livelihood opportunities at 6.6%, poverty at 6.2%, illegal drugs at 5.5%, low wages at 5.1%, high fuel prices at 4.9%, agricultural concerns at 4%, criminality at 2.8%, and the state of education at 2%.
Lower on the list were fulfilling presidential promises at 1.6%, the impeachment of Vice President Sara Duterte at 1.2%, juvenile justice at 1%, the Senate leadership issue at 1%, and the welfare of senior citizens at 1%.
The survey was conducted among 2,400 adult respondents nationwide.
