President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. on Friday teased a “next chapter” ahead of his fifth State of the Nation Address (SONA) on July 27, as he remained tight-lipped on whether he would tackle the corruption issues he had previously exposed.
When asked if the matter would be included in his speech, the President simply replied, “Abangan ang susunod na kabanata.”
Speaking to reporters during an ambush interview in Pampanga, Marcos said he is almost done preparing his SONA but continues to make revisions to ensure the speech is polished.
“I’m never done. Until one hour before the SONA, I’m still changing it because, of course, we want it to be perfect,” Marcos said.
He added that the speech is already more than 90 percent complete, with only final adjustments being made to ensure it covers all key points without being too long or too short.
Marcos said he views the SONA as an opportunity to report to the public on the government’s accomplishments since his previous address.
He said the speech will highlight the administration’s efforts to steer the country through a challenging period marked by external pressures, emphasizing that government interventions have helped Filipinos cope with these difficulties.
The President expressed confidence that the adjustments implemented by the administration have been effective and have enabled the country to withstand ongoing challenges while awaiting more stable conditions.
Meanwhile, Palace Press Officer Undersecretary Claire Castro earlier hinted that the President’s fifth SONA may include a major announcement.
When asked if Marcos was expected to make an “earth-shaking announcement,” Castro replied, “Lagi naman pong ganu’n.”
