Palace rejects Imee’s criticism as ‘fake news’

Malacañang rejected Senator Imee Marcos’s criticism of the administration, calling her statements “fake news” allegedly intended to discredit the government.

Palace Press Officer Claire Castro issued the statement in response to the senator’s remarks describing the administration as “asleep” and “drunk with power,” and accusing it of losing focus on pressing national concerns.

“Ito ay fake news para makapanira lamang at para maikalat ang mga klaseng maling impormasyon,” Castro said.

She argued that such statements go beyond political criticism, saying they could incite public resentment by spreading what she described as false and baseless information.

“Hindi lang ito simpleng paninira, hindi ito simpleng pagbibigay at pagkakalat ng fake news. Paghahasig ito ng puot,” Castro added.

The Palace official also questioned why the senator allegedly remained silent during the administration of former Rodrigo Duterte despite controversies surrounding the government’s anti-illegal drug campaign and flood control projects, while now criticizing the current administration’s anti-corruption initiatives.

Castro maintained that the administration of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. continues to provide assistance to farmers and fisherfolk while pursuing investigations into alleged irregularities involving flood control projects.

Asked whether Senator Marcos should face an investigation for allegedly spreading disinformation, Castro said the decision rests with the appropriate government authorities, emphasizing that the President would not direct an inquiry against his own sister.

“Hindi mag-uutos ang Pangulo na imbestigahan ang kanyang kapatid. Nasa authority na ’yan kung kinakailangang imbestigahan si Sen. Marcos,” she said.
