UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan has ordered the release of 956 inmates from correctional and punitive institutions across the country ahead of Eid Al Adha.
The inmates were convicted in various cases, according to state media reports.
Sheikh Mohamed also pledged to settle the financial obligations linked to the pardoned inmates’ sentences.
Authorities said the move reflects the UAE President’s humanitarian approach aimed at promoting compassion, forgiveness, and social solidarity during the Eid season.
The initiative is also intended to support family cohesion and strengthen community stability by giving inmates an opportunity to reunite with their families and reintegrate into society.
The UAE traditionally announces prisoner pardons ahead of major Islamic holidays as part of efforts to encourage rehabilitation and provide inmates with a second chance.
