The Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) said the seven Filipino seafarers injured in the drone attack on the container ship CMA CGM San Antonio are now in stable condition and continuing to recover.
DMW Secretary Hans Leo Cacdac provided the latest update on the condition of the Filipino crew members affected by the May 5 attack while the vessel was sailing through the Middle East region.
According to Cacdac, all seven injured seafarers are now in stable condition after sustaining injuries during the incident.
Two of the Filipino crew members are expected to return to the Philippines in the coming days, while five others remain confined in a hospital in Oman where they continue to receive medical treatment and assistance.
The DMW chief also said the government is arranging support for some family members of the injured seafarers so they can travel to Oman and personally visit their loved ones while they recover.
Cacdac added that the DMW continues to coordinate closely with relevant government agencies, the shipping company, and the manning agency to ensure the safety and welfare of the affected Filipino seafarers.
The Philippine government earlier confirmed that the CMA CGM San Antonio was struck during a drone attack in the Strait of Hormuz area amid rising tensions in the Middle East.
Authorities said the injured crew members suffered burns and other injuries linked to the explosion onboard the vessel.
The incident once again highlighted the risks faced by Filipino seafarers working in conflict-prone maritime routes across the region.
