Abu Dhabi launches Dh2.85B road project linking Saadiyat Island and Khalifa City

Abu Dhabi is moving forward with a Dh2.85 billion ($776 million) road project that will create a direct link between Saadiyat Island and Khalifa City via Umm Yifeenah Island, as part of efforts to strengthen connectivity and ease traffic congestion.

The Department of Municipalities and Transport said the first phase of the project is designed to improve traffic flow between key residential and development zones while supporting the emirate’s expanding road network.

Once completed, the corridor is expected to accommodate up to 88,000 vehicles daily, helping reduce congestion and absorb increasing traffic volumes across the capital.

“This strategic project will enhance mobility and provide a more efficient transport network for residents and visitors,” authorities said, highlighting its role in improving urban connectivity.

The initial phase includes a pedestrian bridge, around 8 kilometers of running and cycling tracks, and more than 184 smart lighting poles, reflecting a broader push to integrate sustainability and smart technologies into infrastructure projects.

Part of the route has already been opened to motorists, providing early traffic relief while further phases are developed using advanced engineering standards.

Officials said the project is part of Abu Dhabi’s long-term strategy to build world-class infrastructure and improve quality of life, as the emirate continues to invest in transport systems that support economic growth and urban expansion.
