Israel backs US-Iran ceasefire but says truce does not cover Lebanon

The office of President Benjamin Netanyahu said Israel supports the decision of the United States to suspend strikes against Iran for two weeks, but stressed that the ceasefire does not apply to Lebanon.

In a statement posted on X, Netanyahu said Israel supports the efforts of Donald Trump to ensure that Iran no longer poses a nuclear, missile, or terrorist threat to the United States, Israel, Iran’s Arab neighbors, and the rest of the world.

Netanyahu said the United States had informed Israel that it remains committed to pursuing these goals during upcoming negotiations scheduled for Friday in Islamabad.

However, he clarified that the two-week ceasefire agreement “does not include Lebanon.”

The statement came after Shehbaz Sharif earlier announced that the United States, Iran and their allies had agreed to an immediate ceasefire “everywhere including Lebanon and elsewhere.”

Sharif said the truce would take effect immediately, creating confusion over whether Lebanon was covered by the agreement.
