The UAE continues to rank among the countries with the lowest tuberculosis (TB) rates, according to the Ministry of Health and Prevention (MoHAP).
This achievement is the result of the country’s strong preventive programs and strategic health policies.
The UAE has adopted regional strategies and continues to invest in research and innovation to help end TB. Faster diagnostic tests, modern treatments, and the use of digital technology are also being used to strengthen the country’s healthcare system.
The approach includes regular monitoring, a steady supply of medicines, and proper training for healthcare workers. Newborn vaccinations and early detection programs are also part of the preventive measures, especially for lung-related TB cases.
Dr Hussain Abdul Rahman Al Rand, Assistant Under-Secretary for the Public Health Sector, said the ministry is focusing on early detection through screening for visa applicants and other proactive steps. He added that training for healthcare workers and steady access to medicines are priorities.
Public health official Nada Hassan Al Marzouqi said the ministry is working to raise awareness through different health activities, social media campaigns, and community events in Arabic, English, and Urdu. Landmark buildings were also lit in red to mark the occasion.
Every year on March 24, the global community observes World Tuberculosis Day, with various efforts to promote awareness, prevention, and early diagnosis of the disease.
