Vice presidential candidate and Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte is not losing hope that her father, President Rodrigo Duterte, will endorse the presidential bid of Ferdinand Marcos Jr.
“’Yan ang gusto naming lahat na makita ‘yung suporta ni Pangulong Duterte para sa UniTeam. But of course, he is the President so he is allowed to do and to say kung ano yung gusto niya and we will respect his decision,” Sara said in report on GMA News.
Sara said that she has yet to talk to her father, but they are expected to meet in March and April to celebrate the birthdays of their family members.
Duterte said he is not supporting any presidential candidates for now as the official campaign season for national candidates kicks off.
In his latest speech to the nation, Duterte said that almost all aspiring presidents had communicated with him seeking his endorsement for the May 2022 polls.
“I may [support one] in the end if my advice and endorsement would help — if needed. But at this time, I am saying I am not supporting anybody — unless there is a compelling reason really for me to change my mind and decide to support a candidate,” Duterte said.
“We are fighting a war that has been going on for the past 53 years, and we do not want to exacerbate the situation by electing a president who would compromise the interest of the government,” he added.
The president said that all of those who are running for the country’s top post are qualified.
“I think they are okay, except for a few misgivings about the danger of falling into a trap with the communists,” he said.
