Sara Duterte no longer running in 2022 presidential race after Digong accepts VP nomination

Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte confirmed on Thursday that she would no longer be running for a national post in the 2022 elections after her father, President Rodrigo Duterte, accepted the nomination of PDP-Laban for him to run as Vice President.

“Yes, I am not running for a national position as we both agreed only one of us will run for a national position in 2022,” Sara said in a message to reporters.

Sara also gave a brief comment on the PDP-Laban national convention that nominated her father.

“I think it turned out the way the Cusi Faction wanted it to go down,” she said.

Sara said it’s clear that Duterte’s plans were for Senator Bong Go and him to run as tandem, or she would accept Go as her running mate.

She refused, however, to comment on the PDP-Laban senate slate saying she was not keen on helping to endorse PDP-Laban candidates.

“No. I will not share my light this time,” Sara said.

“I am happy we are united in our desire to see a better Philippines in the future. I will be eternally thankful for your trust and confidence,” Sara said in a message to her supporters.

The Davao mayor also insists that her relationship with her father was not affected by their political moves.

“The same as it was before. Our politics do not interfere with our familial relationship. Iba ang trabaho, iba ang pamilya. Walang personalan,” she said.
