Speculations are swirling that Chinese billionaire Jack Ma has been missing and the Twitterverse is raising questions on his safety, as Chinese regulators intensify its grip over the businessman’s empire, including the Ant Group.
The founder of Alibaba group has yet to make a public appearance in the last two months and speculations on his whereabouts further grew after he failed to show up in his own show Africa’s Business Heroes.
An Alibaba spokesperson said Ma was unable to take part on the judging panel “due to a schedule conflict”, according to the Financial Times.
Ma went missing after Ant’s initial public offer (IPO) was suspended in November. The businessman then accused the Chinese authorities for stifling innovation.
Chinese authorities started a crackdown on anti-competitive behavior in China’s Internet sector.
Ma’s last tweet was in October 10, 2020.
