BREAKING: PH bans UK travellers amid new COVID-19 strain

The Philippine government will temporarily suspend all flights from the United Kingdom starting December 24 until December 31 due to the new coronavirus strain first detected in the United Kingdom.

The announcement was made by presidential and IATF spokesperson Harry Roque on Wednesday.

Passengers who are already in transit and those who arrived in PH from UK before December 24 are exempted from entry restrictions, but they are required to undergo stricter quarantine and testing protocols.

The travellers are required to undergo 14-day quarantine in the Athlete’s Village in New Clark City regardless of RT-PCR test results.

“Outbound travel to the UK shall likewise be subject to existing exit protocols of PH and UK,” Roque said.

The Department of Health said the temporary travel ban on UK flights could also curb the anticipated increase in COVID-19 cases in the country during the holiday season.
