Dubai Police pay for tickets of 1,145 inmates to send them home

Some 1,145 inmates have been reunited with their families in their home countries during the first half of this year after the General Department of Punitive and Correctional Institutions at the Dubai Police provided them flight tickets through the initiative “Your Return Is Our Duty”.

They were the first batch of beneficiaries of this initiative for inmates which facilitated their return home upon completing their sentences.

According to Brigadier Ali Al Shamali, Director of the General Department of Punitive and Correctional Institutions at Dubai Police, the total amount of flight tickets provided to these inmates amounted to AED1.5 million, with the help of their partners and philanthropists.

Al Shamali praised those who helped them in achieving their goals set for the inmates’ rehabilitation process. He added that it will give inmates a second chance to get back on the right path.

He underlined that various annual humanitarian initiatives are being undertaken by the Department in the form of financial and in-kind assistance to inmates and their families. Among the assistance they continuously provide include sponsoring tuition fees, residential charges, medical equipment, blood money, food assistance and distributing clothes and school bags.
