Duterte challenges doctors to stage a “revolution” against him

President Rodrigo Duterte has challenged the country’s medical sector to stage a revolution against him following their plea to revert Metro Manila back to modified enhanced community quarantine (MECQ) due to the rising number of coronavirus disease (COVID-19) cases in the Philippines.

In his briefing on August 3, Duterte criticized the medical societies for going public regarding their criticisms of the government’s response to the pandemic.

“Next time, huwag ninyo akong parinigrinigin ng revolution. Kung mag-revolution kayo, you will give me the free ticket to stage a counterrevolution. How I wish you would do it,” he said.

Earlier, 80 medical associations have warned that the country’s healthcare system is already overwhelmed and that the country is losing the fight against COVID-19.

Duterte said that there is no need for the doctors to complain publicly, criticizing the press conferences and statements held and released by medical societies regarding their recommendations to improve the response against the disease.
