US President Donald Trump said he believes a new nuclear deal currently being negotiated between the United States and Iran will surpass the 2015 international agreement aimed at limiting Tehran’s nuclear program.
In a social media post, Trump asserted that the deal under negotiation would be “far better” than the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), following criticism from Democrats and some nuclear experts who warned that talks on the complex issue may be moving too quickly.
The JCPOA, reached in 2015 between Iran and major world powers, sought to curb Iran’s nuclear activities in exchange for sanctions relief.
