Bahrain enhances COVID-19 contact tracing through e-bracelets

Bahrain’s Information and eGovernment Authority (iGA) has intensified its contact tracing campaign by distributing electronic bracelet compatible with the Kingdom’s tracing app.
The waterproof electronic bracelet, connected to the app “BeAware,” was introduced under the directives of His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Crown Prince, Supreme Commander, and First Deputy Prime Minister, as a preventive measure against coronavirus disease (COVID-19).

The “BeAware” app is part of the Kingdom’s efforts to use advance technologies to identify new cases as well as keep track of the active ones, as well as their contacts.

According to iGA, self-isolating individuals are mandated to wear the bracelet to help the monitoring station be notified whenever they are 15 meters away from their phone—in which case a warning will be sent. Wearers are also required to ensure that their devices are charged and that their location features like Bluetooth, GPS, and data connection are always turned on.
iGA also advises iPhone users to set their “Allow Location Access” feature to “Always” or “Set Home Location” if they are home.

Those who violate the regulation concerning the electronic bracelets (not wearing or attempting to remove or tamper with it) will face penalties including three months’ imprisonment and/or a fine between Bhs1,000 to Bhs10,000.
