The Philippine Embassy in Abu Dhabi and the Philippine Consulate General in Dubai and the Northern Emirates have officially announced that the Burj Khalifa will be lighting up with the colors of the Philippine flag tomorrow, June 12.
At exactly 9:40 pm, the world’s tallest tower will showcase the Philippine flag for the first time ever.
Ambassador Hjayceelyn Quintana shared that Emaar’s gesture will inspire many Filipinos in the UAE. “I received a letter from Emaar to say that they want to pay tribute to the Filipinos by lighting up the Burj Khalifa with the colors of the Philippine flag. I was so delighted to hear that news because I know that it will inspire a lot of Filipinos in UAE,” shares Quintana.
Consul General Paul Raymund Cortes is also instrumental in making this event possible by meeting with Emaar and making sure that the event goes well in celebration of the Philippine Independence.
He also said that 2019 marks the first time in three years that the Philippine Independence Day would take place past Eid, paving the way towards a joyous celebration. “This monumental occasion manifests the collective pride and joy of the Filipino Community in the UAE and their appreciation to the multi-cultural community in the country for welcoming them in this diverse society,” said Cortes.
Apart from the Burj Khalifa, the Dubai Festival City Mall will also feature a special IMAGINE show for the Philippine Independence Day celebrations that stretches over 4 days, from June 12 to June 15.
Consul General Cortes will represent Ambassador Quintana for the lighting ceremonies as the latter will be hosting a diplomatic reception in Abu Dhabi.
