3 most popular dishes made with Lumpia wrappers

Lumpia has long been one of the popular viands that Filipinos serve – no matter if it’s during fiestas, birthdays, or even during any regular day at the dining table.

With the upcoming 3-day Filipino Food Festival here in the UAE taking place at Rove Trade Centre Hotel from April 4-6, organized by the Philippine Consulate-General in Dubai and the Northern Emirates and The Filipino Times, here is the list of the lumpia recipes you should know by heart – some of which, you’ll get to enjoy at the festival!

1 1 lumpiang sariwa

Lumpiang Sariwa. This type of lumpia deviates from the usual fried version that most people are familiar with, however – this dish has also earned its place as a favorite and must-haves on the table with its combination of fresh chopped up vegetables and its signature peanut sauce.

2 lumpia shanghai

Lumpiang Shanghai. The classic version of lumpia that everybody loves, this dish is known for its meaty, juicy goodness covered within the thoroughly fried lumpia wrapper. The lumpia is usually paired with either vinegar or the infamous sweet and sour chili sauce to give that counterpoint in taste.

Turon Ala Mode

Turon. Popular on the streets of the Philippines, this snack is created by using the lumpia wrappers in wrap around sliced bananas drizzled with brown sugar and/or white sugar. The snack is then deep fried until it’s crispy, resulting in a simple yet sweet snack / dessert dish. Many restaurants in the Philippines and abroad took a step further and deconstructed the Turon, adding in several more ingredients like Langka, chocolate syrup, and ice cream to form what’s now known as: “Turon ala Mode”.

Highlighting the Philippines’ rich culinary experience, the event coincides with the celebration of the Filipino Food Month this April, instituted by President Rodrigo Duterte through Presidential Proclamation no. 469 s. 2017.
