Maymay Entrata reveals Edward Barber almost quit showbiz

On-screen love team Maymay Entrata and Edward Barber might have only been part of the entertainment industry for three years, but they have already been through a lot to the point that one of them almost gave up.

During the press conference about ABS-CBN’s new weekend fantasy series, “Hiwaga ng Kambat” last April 30, Entrata revealed that she saw a lot of improvements with Barber ever since they started their showbiz career.

Both of them rose to prominence after they became housemates on “Pinoy Big Brother: Lucky 7″ in 2016. Since then, they have been given a number of film and TV projects, as well as product endorsements.

They are also now one of the most in-demand love teams in the Philippine entertainment industry.

But Entrata said Barber never had the empowered attitude that he now possess today.

“Nakita ko po yung pagiging palaban niya na dati po, ‘Ayoko, ayoko.’ ‘Tapos ngayon, parang siya na yung laging mas palaban sa aming dalawa.

“Nakita ko po si Dodong [Barber’s nickname], sobrang nag-improve po siya sa sayaw. Hindi na niya po kailangan ang tulong ko,” she said.

Entrata went on to say: “Kasi dati, kapag nagri-rehearse kami ng ASAP, pumupunta pa kami ng gym para mag-rehearse hanggang 1 A.M.

“‘Tapos konti lang yung [steps], inaabot pa kami ng pagri-rehearse ng ilang oras. Ngayon po, hindi na niya kailangan.”

The 21-year-old actress said she is happy and proud of Barber’s improvements because there was a time when he almost quit showbiz.

Entrata said that she has been with Barber through ups and downs, and that she personally was able to see how he developed.

“Saksi po ako kung paano siya nag-improve talaga. Kasi andiyan ako nung sobrang down na down na down siya. Sobrang halos sabihin niya na, ‘Ayoko na.’

“Pero ngayon, nakita niyo naman kung gaano siya kapalaban, kaya sobrang proud na proud ako sa ‘yo,” she said.

For his part, Barber said that he started to lose faith in himself during his first year in show business.

“Especially at the beginning, yung first ASAP ko po, dun nagsimula. First ASAP dance prod, nagkamali ako. Since then, medyo bumaba ang self-confidence ko,” he said.

However, he pushed himself to be better.

“When you’re at the bottom, the only way you could go is up,” he added.

Now, it’s very evident that he got the right amount of motivation as he stars in his own fantasy series.
