Regine to join ASAP, judge in singing contest in ABS-CBN

Regine Velasquez was welcomed by ABS-CBN executives during her contract signing which was held on October 17 at the Dolphy Theater in ABS-CBN compound.

“Sobra akong touched na touched sa welcome na ibinigay sa akin ng ABS-CBN kasi hindi ko akalain na ganun ako kaimportante, hindi po ako mailusyunadong tao.

“But the reason why I’m here is because hindi ko alam kung hanggang kailan ko pa kayang kumanta, and I want to work with their talented singers.

“Yun talaga yun, na bago man lang matapos yung career ko, masabi kong nakatrabaho ko din ang number one station,” she said in an interview with PEP.ph.

She went on to say that she would like to work with Kapamilya singers including Martin Nievera, Gary Valenciano, Piolo Pascual, Morissette Amon, at Sarah Geronimo. Velasquez is also looking forward to be reunited with her former SOP co-hosts Jaya, Janno Gibbs, Lani Misalucha, and Ogie Alcasid.

Velasquez also denied the rumors that the main reason why she moved to ABS-CBN is that of financial reasons. Rumor has it that Velasquez was offered a contract worth half a billion pesos, but Asia’s Songbird strongly denied such.

“Talaga ba? No, you know, at my age and at the stage of my career, we all know, you know, alam nilang lahat ng mga reporters dito na mga kaibigan ko na, hindi naman ako ilusyunadang tao,” she said.

“Alam ko naman kung ano yung lugar ko sa industry,” Velasquez added.

Nevertheless, the singer remains grateful to the Kapuso network and said that she left GMA-7 “on good terms”.

“I just wanna say that 20 years po ako sa GMA and I am very thankful to them. I am very grateful to them dahil po sa kanila, napatagal po ang aking career, nabigyan ako ng pagkakataon na mag-host, mag-serye, at marami pang iba.

“So, sa akin po, maraming salamat po sa GMA,” she said.

What can her fans expect?

Velasquez was given three regular shows in the Kapamilya network.

She will be part of the lineup of performers for the weekly variety show “ASAP”. Velasquez said that she missed doing variety shows so she is excited to be back on stage to sing and perform.

Her other projects include a musical sitcom with her husband Ogie Alcasid and Ian Veneracion. She will also be one of the judges of an upcoming singing competition “Idol Philippines”, which is the Philippine franchise of the famous US singing competition “American Idol”.

She will be doing some TV guesting as well including an episode in “Gandang Gabi Vice”.

Velasquez will also be the voice behind the theme song of the upcoming primetime series “The General’s Daughter” which will star Angel Locsin, and will take part in the Christmas station ID of ABS-CBN.
