Lea Salonga praises fan’s rendition of her Disney hit

A fan’s wish was answered when Lea Salonga took notice of his voice. The lucky fan, Melo Canlas uploaded a video of him singing Mulan’s theme song, Reflection.

He knew that he wanted to be noticed by the Broadway Diva from the moment he posted the video clip on Twitter on Friday, August 10.

“Lea, you have always inspired me. I hope this video reaches you!” he captioned it.

Many netizens found Melo talented, saying that they thought he was lip-syncing. They helped him reach his goal by sharing the video and tagging Lea Salonga.

“Walang kahirap hirap sa pagkanta. Sana makita at madinig ni @MsLeaSalonga. Keep on singing,” wrote one user.

“I am shookt. Someone from Disney should see this or Lea at least,” said another.

Two days later, Lea retweeted the video, saying: “Yes, it did, and you are stunning!!!”

Melo shared to The Filipino Times how flattered and honored he is that Lea acknowledged him.

“She has always been an inspiration and I really look up to her so much that’s why her tweet meant so much to me,” he said.

Melo is a student of occupational therapy but he has always been in love with singing. “I randomly sing Disney songs and that day, it was Reflection that I vibed into,” he added.

According to Melo, his singing was honed by his high school theater class in Pampanga. He also had a stint in singing competitions while in college. For now, he is still in disbelief that the video reached the voice of Princess Mulan.

“I think this is what they mean when they say ‘I’m in cloud nine,’” he wrote in a tweet.

Asked if he is considering a career in professional singing, Melo told TFT: “Why not, right?”
