Former beauty queens say Catriona Gray does not deserve best swimsuit award

Miss International 2013 Bea Rose Santiago and Binibining Pilipinas-World 2007 Maggie Wilson both said Catriona Gray does not deserve the Best in Swimsuit award she received during the pageant at the Smart Araneta.

Through their social media accounts, the two beauty queen voiced their opinion saying that there are more deserving candidates than Gray, who also won the Miss Universe Philippines 2018 title.

“Huh, best in swimsuit? Paano? I mean, pretty face but definitely not the best body out there,” Wilson said on Facebook.

“Sino best in swimsuit? Napa-nganga tawa kami ni Maggie Wilson-Consunji,” Santiago said on two separate Facebook posts.

Aside from that, Santiago seconded Wilson’s concern and tweeted, “it should not be all about the face.”

As expected, Wilson and Santiago’s social media posts did not sit well with Gray’s supportive fans who decided to counter the two beauty queens. Many of them claimed that the two former titleholders body-shamed Gray.

However, there were some fans who attacked Wilson and Santiago under the belt, which the two beauty queens decided to address. Because of such, the two called out Gray’s fans and called them “rude” and “nasty”.

Through her Instagram story, Wilson decided to defend herself by saying that Gray deserves her Miss Universe Philippines title. It is the Best in Swimsuit award she is questioning.

“Getting so much hate for a comment I made about Catriona Gray.

“I didn’t agree with her being awarded Best in Swimsuit. I stand by that. I also do think she’s beautiful and deserves her Miss Universe Philippines win for overall performance. Did you forget that I also wrote that? Or did you choose to ignore and neglect to read, screen cap and share that part just so you have a ‘reason to hate’?

“Why don’t you ask her what she thinks? I’m sure she won’t condone how nasty you’re all being.

“An opinion is different from bashing,” she said on her Instagram Story wherein she tagged Gray.

Gray has since aired her side of the story through a statement posted on her Instagram Story.
