Aljur Abrenica confirmed that he had dinner with Kylie Padilla’s family last February because he asked the latter’s hand in marriage.
On February 17, Kylie posted a photo of her together with her partner Aljur Abrenica and father Robin Padilla on Instagram which spurred reactions from netizens.
In an interview with ABS-CBN, Aljur said that they gathered their families together to settle past conflicts and start a new beginning.
“Pumunta kami sa kanila, pinakilala ko yung sarili ko pati yung pamilya ko. Tinanggap naman kami ni Tito Robin, nagkaroon ng pagsasalo-salo,” he said.
Aljur also said that he was nervous when he faced Kylie’s family to ask for their approval for him to marry his partner.
“Kahit sino kakabahan talaga eh, dahil siyempre ‘di ba, minsan mangyari lang ‘yan sa buhay mo eh. Ano siya eh, napaka-magical. Para mamamnhikan, hihingin mo na ‘yung kamay ng anak ng isang pamilya. Panibagong chapter yon sa buhay ko,” he said.
However, Aljur said that they have no definite plans about the wedding yet.
“Hindi pa namin masarado eh, kasi gusto namin makarating lahat katulad ng pamilya ni Kylie, nanay niya, at saka mga kapatid niya sana makarating,” he added.
Aljur expressed several times in the past that he wants to have a good relationship with Robin for the sake of his fiancée and son, and it seems like he won’t need to worry about that anymore.
He also thanked his girlfriend’s daughter for accepting him.
“Masasabi ko lang, salamat Tito Robin. Marami siyang aral na ipinamahagi sa akin,” he said.
On the other hand, Robin Padilla said that Aljur and Kylie, who he referred to as Romeo and Juliet, are old enough to make their decisions.
“Matanda na po ‘yung anak ko, matanda na rin si Aljur. Ang maganda lang po doon ay si Romeo and Juliet ay andon na sa bahay ko,” the action star said.
